so, you want to get promoted? i'll help you out!

to get from senior to graduate, you have to have a cemented style. a style isn't a certain coloring or composition or font that an artist uses on every graphic - that is what i call repetition. often, so many people misunderstand a style to be repetition, and they get stuck in a rut, using the same texture or font or coloring in every single graphic over and over again. that's also just rushing; a style can take a long time to come to an artist (it certainly took me a loooooooong time! ><") it took me 5 years of making graphics - five long, long years - to find my niche and style. so don't fret if you've been stuck at senior for a while - you'll get to graduate soon. i can feel it!

i think your banners are your strongest pieces in your gallery, by far. they're absolutely gorgeous. i'd try to vary the composition in your banners some more, though, as there seems to be a bit of repetition there. for example, in all of your banners, there's the main text on the right, small text on the left, and a big person and a small person (or animal!) in the middle. so just try to vary up your composition and image/text placements in your banners some more. your coloring is great, though! it's not repetitive, but it's not completely random, either. i can really see a style coming up in your banners. keep it up! : D

from what i can see of your blends, they're great as well. the blend you have up now is simple but still showcases your coloring & text skills. i'd brighten up the skin on the guy just a bit, though. (:

your icons and sigs are a little bit weaker than your banners and blends. icons are one of the toughest things to master, even though they're the smallest pieces. coloring is only one step to making an icon, most of the time. i think that textures and/or text are crucial to making finished icons, much like banners and sigs and blends. i'd recommend going through an icon texture community to pick up any goodies that you like. there are all types of icon textures out there - text textures, gradients, grunge textures, light textures, etc. my absolute favorite icon texture community is texturize, over at LJ. they have some of the most gorgeous icon resources made by the most talented resource makers out there. i'd definitely give that place a look, and just experiment with icons. :3 one of the blessings of being a senior is that you have freedom to really experiment and try all sorts of things before you settle into your style. that's not to say, though, that you can't experiment as you move up the ranks and get your style. ^__^ i remember that when i first became a senior artist, i never made anything in color. i was a strictly dark, monochrome kind of girl. XD then, i found muted colors and i fell in love, and i completely changed my style. and now i looove colors! so don't be afraid to try new things, cause you might find something new that you fall head over heels in love with. :3

your second sig is definitely the strongest out of your three. it's gorgeous! your first sig is lovely, but those images of zooey are really hard to color, and in your sig the pictures are rather pixelly due to coloring, i think. i really do like your third sig, but i think it just might be a bit too simple. (: so i'd recommend just to keep on working on icons and sigs, and you'll find your niche.

I knew that whoever critiqued was going to comment on my repetitive composition in my banners! That's definitely on my list of things to work on. I just haven't had time to make anything new with different placement, unfortunately. I'll make a point to do that next time.

Thanks for the link to texturize. I've heard of it, but I've never visited before. Those little textures have always made me a little nervous, but I'll definitely take a look and see what I can do with them.

anyway, i'm here from the new!pimp thread which has a long
name which i can't quite recall right now, but yesssss!

i think you have a beautiful gallery here. your style is very
defined and i love the simplicity of your work, as well as the
very eyecatching composition. i also really like your
use of text! i think your colouring is nice for the most part, too!

to me, the only thing that seems off is the effect (is it threshold?
i don't know!) on some of your graphics. it seems to be affecting
the image quality of your work slightly, as well as the contrast.
honestly, i don't think it is needed in some graphics (effy sig -
her hair seems toooooo black), but it works in some of the others
(first sig).

i think it's something that you shouldn't let your graphics be based
around, but rather add it when it fits? i think your style is still strong
and yours without adding it to every graphic.

i hope this helps and that i wasn't too harsh! D: i really do like your
graphics, hannah love! <3
