When you join the site, you will be a starting member. In this group, you will be able to see and post as a member can, however your posts must be approved by a moderator. This is to help prevent spam posts and accounts on the site. Once you have 5 approved posts, you will become a member.
Once you have 5 posts you will be a member, whether you are an artist or here to request graphics. If you're an artist, go ahead and post your gallery in the New Galleries Here! forum and you will be sorted into the Member Artist group. Members may not moderate the forums or fill requests. You are welcome to post in galleries, post critiques, try out tutorials, post suggestions for the character resource lists, and join in the fun of the Off-Topic forums.
All new artists to TDA, regardless of experience or skill, are first sorted into this group so that you can take part in artist activities such as challenges, requests (limited to the Member Artist Requests and Character Make-Over areas), and they can offer resources and post graphics in the Up For Grabs area. The Member Challenge area is only open to member artists, but general and ultimate challenges are open to all artists regardless of rank.
These members may take requests, pose challenges and post tutorials. To become a junior artist, you must show a basic competency of all core skills such as blending, adding text, and adjusting colour, and have few mistakes in secondary skills such as image quality, image placement, and image choice. Your graphics should be coherent as a whole and text should compliment the rest of the graphic.
These members are able to perform the same tasks as a junior artist, but their artistic skills are at a higher level and a consistent "style" can be seen in their graphics. To become a senior, you must show a mastery of core skills such as blending, text, colour adjustments and combining images, text, etc. in a way that creates a coherent graphic. You should have very few mistakes in secondary skills such as image quality, image placement, and image choice. An example of this may be an artist who can blend and choose the right colours, but oversharpens nearly everything.
These members are able to perform the same tasks as junior and senior artists, but their artistic skills must be even further advanced, almost to the point of mastery. This mastery does not only include the core skills, but also most of the secondary skills as well as demonstrate that they have developed a recognizable personal style. These artists are just below the staff ranking, and only lack in one or two small areas before they can be promoted to that next level. The only thing that truly separates a graduate artist from a staff artist is consistency in producing technically and stylistically perfect graphics; an artist may be promoted to graduate whilst still making some small technical mistakes that do not drastically affect the graphic as a whole.
These members are the cream of the graphics crop here at TDA. They have mastered all the core and secondary skills, and have a unique style that can be easily recognized. They are also members who have gained a high reputation for fine graphics, entering challenges, and within their galleries it is nearly impossible to pick out technical errors or poor stylistic choices.
These members are also Staff Artists, but are no longer active in making graphics on the site. A staff artist may ask to be moved to this group if they believe that they will be away from graphics for an extended period of time, or for good, and their galleries have been preserved for others to enjoy.
These members are Staff Artists whose work takes on an alternate form, whether it be through work with vectors, digital painting, complex image manipulation, or professional design.
Once a month, the members nominate and vote for this monthly award. Here is a complete list of the winners over the years.
