Hello, thanks for joining TDA! I just had one remark about one of the credits, in the images section you credit 'official psds'. As you may be aware, we have a blanket ban on PSD use, which includes images used in those PSDs because they're obviously not the original source of those images. So if you've used images from PSD's, please make sure you find the original source instead and credit that (using google reverse image search). If, however, it's a site which offers both PSD's as well as images separately, I'd love to see a link so I can check it out.

Thanks in advance, and awaiting your PM

Oh wow. You are incredibly talented, how long have you been making graphics for?! Wow!
I'm so blown away by all of these, but I'm particularly fond of your signatures and blends, they're all flawless! You seem to have all the basics down; text, colouring, composition, blending... Like, really good!
Oh and your icons are soo cute! I love the second set! ♥

sadusfjofdjeaafuuhdaoufhdafna;dohfdaoa thank you both so much! <3333333

Wren: Those manips were actually for class projects and I just threw them up there to fill space and I was super iffy on them, hahaha. I'm glad someone likes them! I was never really into doing larger blends either, so hopefully I'm getting better at that those! Side note: I love Zuko so much. He's easily one of my top 10 favorite characters ever.

Vashti: I've been creating since I was about 12 and I'm 22 now, so about 10 years? It's been a really long time hahah. I fell out of these kinds of designs a few years ago, however. I used to be very active in a few online Potter roleplay forums and when I went off to college, I just didn't have as much time to devote to this over my studies.  I did just graduate with degrees in communications media, journalism & public relations and marketing, so that took up A LOT of my time. I'm happy to be back in the game here though!

Hi there! I'm so impressed with your gallery! I can honestly say that when I was an MA, I wasn't nearly as innovative or imaginative or creative as you are, so congrats to you for pushing yourself and being willing to play! THIS is especially wonderful. Continue the great work!

hey katlynn, here with your requested critique :)

ok, the things you asked specifically about:

looking at each individual graphic pretty good, but a bit repetitive between different graphics- looking down your banners,  there are a lot with a person off center/on the left, then text, then a smaller person on the right. it tends to spread out the focus a bit too much unless you clearly make one thing the main focal point. but focal points on banners are just tricky b/c awkward shape. same thing with the CIs - your models and text tend to be in the same places. stick your text on the bottom next time, or something like that. also, when you have two people, make sure you know which one’s more important. like on the end of all things CI, you’ve got one girl who’s in front and brighter, but the other one is bigger and the text leads directly to her. if she was behind a bit of texture or stock, or the text even, you could put her more in the background, or you could make her monochrome or something.

tl;dr - more variety, clearer focal points.

font choices- very nice. occasionally you’ve gone with a sans serif where I would do a serif/more formal/traditional font to match the rest of the image/other fonts- like the i’ve given up on you or leaving you banners or the you can’t hurry love CI.

text color choices fit the rest of the graphics nicely. one thing to watch for is spreading out the text too much- our eyes are naturally drawn to words, so if you have text off on the edge of the banner (like on the leaving you banner) then our eyes read it and then run right off the edge of the canvas.

text sometimes looks super pixilated (pride and prejudice banner, some of the icons). on the text window thing in ps, there’s an option idk if you’ve found yet, it took me about two years of using ps to see it, to change from strong/crisp/smooth or something text- when text is really tiny, I’ve found it works to have it set to smooth, and then maybe either bolded or duplicated at a lower opacity.

also be careful of having two pieces of text close to each other but at different angles (you can’t hurry love CI). on the wonderland ci, the wavy text is a bit hard to read- it works really well on the title, less so on the quote.

I really like the text on the keep running sig- it fits in with the rest of the image really well.

-filtering/image quality-

watch out for over/under sharpening. the alice banner is a bit overfiltered on the faces - anne hathaway has lost a lot of definition, especially around her nose. filtering is very much a personal taste/style thing once you're past the point of just making sure the image quality is good, so experiment a lot, just make sure text and faces are clean and easy to read/natural.

generally awesome. like, really great - you’re definitely experimenting and trying a lot of different styles of coloring. keep it up. occasionally gets a bit dark (purple haze sig, star wars blend, first two icon sets) so watch for that. I’d love to see you try some more monochrome.

favorites: emma watson blend is gorgeous in every way. the batman CI has great comp and coloring. love the animated snow banner - coloring and the SNOW are just fantastic. second icon set - super creative cuts and texture use.

least favorites: the two graphics under ‘other’ are a lot weaker than the rest of your gallery, particularly the second one.

hunger games icons - super yellow skin tones, text isn’t terribly interesting and a bit too busy for my  taste.

p&p banner - image quality is not great, coloring and text aren’t terribly interesting.

leaving you banner - title and coloring are great, quote and image quality less so.

marie antoinette sig - text is a bit disjointed from the mood/coloring.

han/leia sig - text isn’t working for me - it’s a sort pretty graphic and the text is kind of abrupt on the white background and placement is a little awkward, though I get why you put it there, and han and leia are super blurry.

killer queen blend - love the text, but it’s very very bright.

overall - keep up what you’re doing, it’s definitely working for you. you obviously have a good grasp on your program and the basics. can’t wait to see more from you

Hi Katlynn!

I am so so sorry that my critique is so unbelievably late, but somehow

I just didn't get around to doing it earlier :/
I hope you had super nice holidays and a great start into the New Year!
I've already seen that you've revamped your gallery and I have to say

it's looking lovely!! :loves:
So let's get started with this crit!

1. Cookies
As a major strong point I would point out your composition! I love that

you're playing around with all sorts of different things and are keeping

a wide variety in your graphics. So keep doing that! A little challenge

for you to keep things interesting though: make a banner with at least

4 (if you really want to challenge yourself include 6) people and no

I also love that you're very active and constantly improving! There's no

comparison between your gallery in December and your gallery now!

Making many graphics and asking for advice is definitely playing a big

role in improving so just keep being as active as you are and I'm sure

you'll be flying up the ranks real soon ;)
Another strong point is your coloring in your newer things and also the

combined use of textures and stock - I think it's gorgeous and it makes

things interesting, so keep experimenting with that! I can't wait to see

2. Spices
There's two major points I want to address here: contrasts and text. I'm

concentrating on your newer graphics here, since this is the level you

are at at the moment. In section three I will suggest a little clean out.
Contrasts: Some of your graphics have slight problems with contrast or

white balance. Your newest banner (the alice banner) has a lovely

coloring, there's no doubt about that, but the whites are a little too strong

I think. Especially the white on the face of the person on the left - the

right eyebrow is completely vanished under the white and it makes it

look a bit funny. In contrast to the over-contrasting in the banner, the

white balance seems a bit low in the second CI (dawn of justice) - the

overall graphic would profit more from making the contrast a bit higher! ;)

Same goes for your first signature as well as the last two sigs and your

'the force blend' (WHICH IS SUPER AWESOME OTHERWISE!), I'd say.

Just higher the contrast a tad and you'll be good to go!
Text: Okay so I think that you're still struggling sometime with finding

the right text placement and font that fits into the graphic. For text

placement we're taking a little older banner of yours, the 'leaving you

banner'. You put the main text completely off to one side, which shifts

the whole focus of the graphic to the right - you want it to be mostly

centered though, to maintain a sort of balance. So I'd suggest you

move the main text to the space between the big face in the middle

and the tiny person on the left - you could also make it look like the

text is behind the big girl (cut a little bit off) - it creates depth to the

graphic and can work really well!
The second thing I want to address is adding a border/outline to text.

You did that in your gorgeous 'slow&steady' banner, but unfortunately

it doesn't work at all for me. You have a gorgeous use of stock there

and what this banner needs is an elegant font - the font you used is

not bad, but the gradient and the border make it look too childish - I'd

say take the pipette, take an orange colour from the girls hair and

set the font to that colour. Get rid of the gradient and the border, if

you want you can add a slight black drop shadow, but I'd really stay

away from outlines! They hardly ever work, and if they do, 99% of the

time it's when used in texture filled graphics - and since your use of

stock is so great I would go for more elegant text, like the lovely one

you used in the alice banner!

Here I have a little clean out suggestion. Just in time for promo's I would

remove your hunger games icon set (the font is pretty repetitive, as well

as the coloring), your pride and prejudice banner (the text and the

colouring isn't as strong), the leaving you banner (the text placement is

weak, as mentioned above, if you change that, it can definitely stay!),

your let them eat cake sig (in comparison to your other graphic this is a

little simple), your I love you/I know sig (the image quality of the people

is fairly low).
What I wanted to acknowledge though is your gorgeous 'other' section!

Keep adding new stuff because this is a pretty strong point of yours!

So all in all I think you have improved so much and you are THIS close

to promotion in my eyes ;) Keep on being so active and you'll do great

If you have any questions you can pm me about anything! Even if it's

just to chat - my mailbox is open! (Unless it's overflowing.. then just

leave a comment )
I hope I could help you a bit and I wasn't too harsh or anything!
Sorry again for being so late :(
Love, Sally

Ellie:  Thank you so much!

Wren:  Welcome back, hahah! I don't know if I'm promotion material right now, but hopefully in the coming months! Working for corporate/print design is definitely a lot different than forum graphics and such, so hopefully I can get back into the swing of things soon!

Vashti:  Awe, thank you! I really appreciate the compliments! <3

Cat & Sally:  THANK YOU BOTH SO SO SO MUCH! I was NOT expecting this much of a crit from you guys and I'm so absolutely grateful for all of the advice you've given me.  I took out some of the graphics you guys weren't too fond of and tried to edit some of the others to reflect your advice.  On the Alice banner, unfortunately the image of Anne in the background was waaaay blown-out to begin with and I really didn't notice how bad it was until you guys pointed it out to me. I replaced that photo with another, so hopefully that works a little better. THANK YOU BOTH AGAIN! This was wonderful. <3333
